Lie to Me
By Connie Owens Patton
Politicians pimp hope
From podiums turned to pulpits
Grin wide into congregations
Perched on metal chairs in town halls
Profess from their diaphragms
To be anointed ones
They spew fabricated passion
To robeless choirs of constituents
Still seeking the promised land
The faithful, tithe their votes
Then wait to be transformed
Only to discover promises were pick up lines
Secure in the White House
Politicians cast believers aside
Slip, sliding and slick you are
What face will preach to us now
