INFO: The HBOAccess Writing Fellowship is designed to give emerging, diverse writers the opportunity to develop a half-hour or hour script suitable for HBO or Cinemax.
The program will select up to 8 diverse writers to take part in a series of master classes held over one week in July at the HBO campus in Santa Monica. Classes will consist of discussions with HBO executives and showrunners and will focus on the craft of writing including structure, story, and character as well as the business aspects of securing an agent and effective networking.
PRIZE: Winners will be paired with an HBO or Cinemax development executive who will serve as his/her mentor over the course of 10 months. Mentoring can be done remotely or in person pending whichever is logistically feasible. In addition, we will hold monthly group meetings during which projects will continue to be work-shopped.

INFO: UCP’s Pitch Fest is an open forum for undiscovered storytellers looking to pitch the next great television series. This year in collaboration with NBCUniversal Talent Infusion Programs (NBCUNI TIPS), the award-winning studio is targeting entries focused on diversity with the goal to discover writers and stories that highlight a range of topics from ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation, to socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, and religious beliefs.

SESAME STREET WRITERS’ ROOM
INFO: Sesame Street Writers’ Room is a brand new fellowship opportunity from the creators of Sesame Street. They are looking for fresh new talent from underrepresented racial backgrounds. Emerging storytellers who are selected to join the fellowship will receive hands-on writing experience guided by Sesame Street veterans and other media industry leaders.

TV PILOT CONTEST
American Black Film Festival / Turner
INFO: ABFF is excited to announce the launch of the very first American Black Film Festival Turner TV Writing Contest designed to shine a spotlight on new diverse writers who are invited to submit an original pilot script in comedy or drama categories.
Together, Turner and ABFF will select five TBS/comedy finalists and five TNT/drama finalists, and one winner in each category will receive a trip to the 2017 American Black Film Festival in Miami from June 14-18, 2017.
AWARD: $500, and the opportunity to meet with Turner Original Programming executives.
