INFO: Starting with their Fall 2016 Awards, Sustainable Arts Foundation – a non-profit foundation supporting artists and writers with families – is committed to offering half of its awards to applicants of color.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Black and Brown Theater
INFO: Black and Brown Theatre, a Detroit area theatre which seeks to create opportunities for theatre artists of color is currently seeking 10 minute plays and/or 10 minute excerpts from larger pieces for our inaugural showcase at the Charles H Wright Museum in Detroit.
For this showcase, they are particularly interested in Black playwrights, Latinx playwrights, Arab American playwrights and Southeast Asian playwrights. 10 minute plays or 10 minute excerpts can be about any topic so long as it is possible for all of the roles to be cast with actors of color (Please note that the plays do not have to discuss race or ethnicity to be considered). Small casts (1-3 actors) preferred. They would also love one of the plays to be either bilingual (Spanish/English) or entirely in Spanish.
Playwrights whose work is accepted will receive a small stipend for their piece. The showcase is a one-time performance on Sunday October 30, 2016 in Detroit. Playwrights are not required to attend performance or rehearsals. Playwrights may reside anywhere.
Please send scripts as a PDF or Word Doc to BlackandBrownTheatre@gmail.com. Scripts do not have to be world premieres. Please include your name and contact info (Phone number, email, and mailing address) on the script. Also, please include a synopsis and cast breakdown in the body of the email. No more than 3 submissions per playwright.

BLACK AND LATINO PLAYWRIGHTS CONFERENCE
Texas State University
INFO: Texas State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance annually sponsors a Black and Latino Playwrights Conference that includes professional guest director and actors, auditions, 3-5 days of open rehearsals and in-class presentations by guest artists culminating in staged reading performances open to the campus and community.
From September 12-17, 2016, they will present a workshop and showcase featuring the work of student and professional Black and Latino playwrights, conducted by professional guest directors and artists. The mission of the Black and Latino Playwrights Conference is to study the craft, to future the artist, and celebrate the work.
OBJECTIVES:
- Provide Texas State University students majoring in theatre with the opportunity to work with professionals for a hands-on, week-long lab that includes the collaborative process of "finding a play" in rehearsals, culminating with a public staged reading.
- Showcase the work of Black and Latino playwrights from across the country.
- Annually lend an ear to new voices and help writers, in collaboration with directors, actors and dramaturges, to shape their stories and hone their craft in an environment that allows the writer to explore and grow and learn fearlessly.
- Share the play with the campus and community in a staged reading for audiences followed by a discussion and/or question and answer session.

MACDOWELL COLONY RESIDENCY
INFO: The MacDowell Colony provides time, space, and an inspiring environment to artists of exceptional talent. A MacDowell Fellowship, or residency, consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for up to eight weeks. There are no residency fees.
The Colony accepts applications from artists working in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. The sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence, which the Colony defines in a pluralistic and inclusive way. MacDowell encourages applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics, and welcomes artists engaging in the broadest spectrum of artistic practice and investigating an unlimited array of inquiries and concerns. To that end, emerging as well as established artists are invited to apply.

RADCLIFFE INSTITUTE FELLOWSHIPS
Harvard University
INFO: The Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program is a scholarly community where individuals pursue advanced work across a wide range of academic disciplines, professions, and creative arts (including Playwriting / Screenwriting).
Applicants in Playwriting / Screenwriting must have a significant body of independent work in the form. This will include, most typically, a play or screenplay produced or under option.
STIPEND: Up to $75,000 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant. They work with fellows with families who have particular issues connected to relocating to smooth the transition. If so directed, Radcliffe will pay the stipend to the fellow’s home institution. Please note that they can only pay stipends to home institutions if they are US based. Fellows receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2017 through May 31, 2018.
Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so they may devote themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal. Since this is a residential fellowship, they expect fellows to reside in the Boston area during that period and to have their primary office at the Institute so that they can participate fully in the life of the community.

NEW PLAY INCUBATOR: IMMIGRATION
Living Room Theater
INFO: iving Room Theater is seeking playwrights to develop plays about immigration for its New Play Incubator this October/November. Playwrights will be divided into 2 groups and meet 3 times. In the course of 3 weeks, the playwrights will create a 10 minute play related to immigration. Each group will culminate in a staged reading for the public. Actors and director will be provided for the reading. Playwrights may attend auditions and rehearsals if they like.
Playwrights must be able to attend all meetings of at least one group. Please do not submit if you cannot make all the meetings of at least one group. All meetings/rehearsals/readings will be held in Manhattan. Non-New York based playwrights may apply but must be able to travel to the meetings/reading. No travel stipend is provided.

RED DRAGONFLY NEW WRITING COMPETITION
Red Dragonfly Productions
INFO: Red Dragonfly Productions in association with Grist To The Mill are running a New Writing Festival and are looking for new and emerging writers from British East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian communities who are interested in contributing and sharing their contemporary and traditional stories.
They are not only looking for established writers but potential writers of any ability or experience, their in house dramaturge, Ross Ericson, will support you throughout your script development.
After they have reviewed submissions, they will be inviting up to ten successful applicants to a free one day workshop – travel will be provided* – and from that workshop three applicants will be selected to have their plays produced and performed in our festival. (*depending on applicants’ bases.)
If you want to be considered in the first instance please submit your story/idea. They will only accept submissions by email to submissions@gristtheatre.co.uk
Successful participants will be invited to the workshop by the 16th October 2016 that will take place by the end of that month, at a place and time yet to be confirmed. The performances are scheduled to take place in February of 2017. Red Dragonfly New Writing Festival is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
PRIZE: £1000 fee paid to each writer whose play is performed at the festival.
